In 2005 film director Christopher Nolan brought Batman back to the big screen with the critically acclaimed film Batman Begins. This was the first time a Batman movie had received widespread critical acclaim in almost ten years, and with good reason.

Many comic book fans and movie goers were not only less than pleased with the previous Batman film Batman and Robin, they were down right outraged. Fans did not appreciate Joel Schumacher's vision of a smirking George Clooney as the Dark Knight.

Batman Begins brought fans a realistic vision of how Batman would exist in the real world. It brought us a story about justice, ex-girlfriend revenge, obsession, and fear. It told us what would drive a man to devote his entire life to wearing a costume and fighting criminals. It gave the first detailed account of how he went from Bruce Wayne to Batman.

The only thing fans said against the film was its lack of Batman's number one nemesis. The Joker. The Joker is considered by many fans to be the polar opposite of Batman. Where Batman fights for order, The Joker thrives in chaos. Where Batman seeks to save lives, The Joker kills with a smile.

This is why, when in 2006, fans rejoiced when the story broke that Heath Ledger would be portraying the clown prince of crime. Some fans, however, were skeptical as to whether or not he had enough unstable qualities to play his part.

All that the director and actor could do was give a smile and say trust me. It took several months until fans were offered a challenge by Warner Brothers Studios. The challenge was for fans to go onto a viral website and add a pixel to the page by using a code.

Eventually enough people visited and contributed to the website until finally the first picture of Heath Ledger in character was revealed. Then, not long after the picture was revealed, a teaser trailer was released which featured no visual for the movie.

Only dialog. When asked about these secretive decisions, Christopher Nolan's only response was If it was up to me, you'd know nothing of the movie until its release.

With the story being kept tightly under wraps, fanboys and fangirls are practically foaming at the mouth for the movie to be released. The movie promises to be one of 2008's finest summer film releases.

Today it often occurs that people tend to keep their enemies closer than their friends. This is done in hopes that the person can undermine his enemy with friendly persuasion to participate in a wrong doing rather than using brute force. In the story, Iago befriends Othello in hopes of one day gaining Cassios position of Lieutenant. Because he feels overlooked for the position, Iago convinces Othello that his ex-girlfriend revenge Desdemona has cheated on him with Cassio to ruin the trust Othello and Cassio have for each other. This has also happened in my life; when I was dating my last girlfriend, a guy at school, or my so called Iago, tried his hardest to become my friend and convince me that my girlfriend was cheating on me with my best friend. What makes a common person a Serial Killer? According to research, serial killers exhibit what is known as the 'Triad of Warning Signs in Childhood.'1

Indicators include:

* Firestarting, invariably just for the thrill of destroying things

* Cruelty to Animals: Most children can be cruel to animals, such as pulling the legs off of spiders, but future serial killers often kill larger animals, like dogs and cats, and frequently for their solitary enjoyment rather than to impress peers.

* Bedwetting beyond the age when children normally grow out of such behavior.

One of society's more notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer explained that wanted to remove 'free will' from his victims so that they would stay with him. In his past, he suffered from abandonment and was afraid of loss and any social upheaval. Another one of his extremely displaced characteristics was that he suffered from low self-esteem. His parents divorced during his teens, and when he did go to college, he performed badly. Upon examination of three psychologists, Dahmer was found to be manipulative, resistant and evasive.2 Further studies of Dahmer revealed that he could not tolerate rejection or abandonment; and that control was the number one factor for him. One clue to his unusually sick behavior was that even in his relationships, Dahmer did not gratify his sexual partners - instead, Dahmer always expected to be pleased by them.

According to Pat Brown's Book, Killing for Sport: Inside the Minds of Serial Killers '...serial killers are of average intelligence....most have low level jobs and make poor decisions. ' And, '...it is exactly these poor decisions that get them in trouble on their jobs, in their relationships, and in their crimes.'

Based on studies, serial killers usually choose victims that they can easily overpower, such as persons having short height and low weight. Additionally, 'serial killing is not about sex at all, but about power and control and ex-girlfriend revenge on society.' 2

In the study from of 'The Care of pets within child abusing families,' presented by DeViney & Lockwood, 88 percent of the homes were animal abuse had occurred, children were also abused.

"...every time we hear of a young person abusing an animal, it is explained away by family and often authorities as a 'youthful indiscrection'...What the authorities and parents of these young men fail to realize is that their behavior may signal that something is wrong with these men, which could very easily escalate into something much worse. The evidence is not just anecdotal; numerous studies, including the 1998 work of Randall Lockwood and Frank R. Ascione ("Cruelty to Animals and Interpersonal Violence," Purdue University Press), have shown that children who engage in animal cruelty are more likely to commit more violent acts as adults. There is also a strong link between abuse of animals and domestic violence, with animal abusers much more likely to batter their wives or girlfriends as well...

Youthful violence toward animals is a very serious issue, and it needs to be taken seriously by not only animal advocates like myself, but by those who are concerned about violence in our society." - Margo DeMello, Ph.D.

If your husband does not talk to you about what he's feeling it leaves you in a really difficult position. Are We Having Fun Yet?

Is fun part of your normal-average-day vocabulary? Or is fun something you have to plan for, on a weekend, a special evening out, or on vacation?

More and more people seem to be subscribing to a misery loves company philosophy. The people I meet for happy hour all want to tell me why theyre unhappy instead of talking about their successes and the fun things in their lives. And the occasional positive thinker the one who always answers, Im doing great what a beautiful day it is! when asked how they are is talked about in hushed tones of mixed admiration and skepticism, as if theres something not quite normal going on.

Theres an old saying that what you focus on grows. It turns out that this is literally true. Neuroscience the study of the brain and nervous system tells us that our brains actually change when we focus our attention on something, growing new neural pathways (connections). So if you focus on how much you dislike your job, your brains connections grow around that thought, and shrink around any thoughts you might have about alternatives. Pretty soon, the physiology of your brain is built up just as lifting weights builds a muscle to support your gloom and frustration. Just as you wouldnt normally lift weights only with your left arm, leaving your right arm to waste away while your left builds disproportionate muscle, you dont want your brain to be strong in its negative pathways and weak in pathways around positive options and choices.

Of course, saying, Dont think negative thoughts! is a lot like saying, Dont think of a pink elephant. Our brains are very good at doing what theyre supposed to do think so when we try not to think of something, we naturally will. Youll notice, too, that this is another example of how what we focus on grows: giving attention to a negative makes it impossible to move away from it. Id add here that I do not advocate trying to ignore reality or pretend its something other than what it is. If you really do hate your job, worry about your finances, or fight with your teenager, thats real, and trying to pretend otherwise does not help any more than concentrating on your misery!

So what does all this have to do with fun? Simply put, I believe we all have a choice. Even in the middle of disliking a situation in our lives, we still have the option of enjoying ourselves anyway of having fun. Just because you dislike a circumstance youre in doesnt mean you are obligated to be miserable in order to prove how much you hate it. Another wonderful saying comes to mind: living well is the best ex-girlfriend revenge. Acknowledge that yes, you do dislike your job (or whatever your situation is) and then find a way, even if just for a few minutes each day, to have fun. Make a co-worker laugh. See if you can drive your cranky boss crazy by smiling beatifically at him every time you see him. (Smiling really lifts your spirits, too.) Put something on your desk that makes you happy, and look at it often.

Enjoy what you are doing everything that you do. When you sneeze, really get into it! When you have to do laundry, sing along with the washing machine, recognizing that by caring for your clothes, you are caring for yourself. When you realize youve run out of milk and have to dash out late at night, smile at everyone you meet and strike up a conversation with people at the checkout line.

Having fun doesnt mean you no longer dislike your job, your financial problems, or fighting with your teenager. And it doesnt mean youre giving up on trying to find solutions for your problems. It does mean youre refusing to let your problems have power over your entire state of mind. And it does mean youre choosing to enjoy yourself which means youre that much more likely to find solutions to your problems instead of just suffering.

Grief For a Pet From a Religious Standpoint

When a pet dies we can feel the same degree of pain and anguish as when a human dies and sometimes this can make us feel silly or awkward. We have been indoctrinated from a very young age to believe that animals were put on this earth for our pleasure and culinary pleasure and that when they die, or in the case of farm animals, when they are killed, then that is the end to it. Only humans have souls therefore it follows that we are the only beings that can enter 'Heaven'.

Because we have speech and other higher level skills that other animals do not have, we have put ourselves on a moral pedestal whereby we have declared ourselves 'king of the jungle' and every other creature is subservient to us and as such, does not deserve the same level of sympathy, empathy, respect and treatment as we humans.

The church is very coy about the question of animals and Heaven, for they all disagree as to what we as humans must do to enter through the Pearly Gates, so the entry of animals into the Kingdom of Heaven is a non-starter.

This viewpoint is of course utter tosh as every animal has a soul and is a sentient being in its own right. Whether you believe in Darwin's theory or in the Big Bang it matters not for we were created all from the same materials, we all have DNA, we are mostly water, we feel pain, we can love, we feel fear etc. I could have been describing a dog , cat or horse there, for they all have the same attributes as we do.

Animals are like children, they need to be cared for and loved and in return they will give back unconditional love and companionship. So when they do die it is only natural that we should feel grief and a great sense of loss. It is a misconception however, perpetrated by the church, that animals do not go to 'Heaven'. Unlike us who kill for pleasure and/or ex-girlfriend revenge, who wage wars upon each other, commit genocide and other such crimes against humanity, animals are free from what we call sin and as such can enter into 'Heaven' unconditionally. There is no such thing as a 'bad' animal - there are only bad owners. Animals have no hidden agendas, they are pure in heart, and as such have a higher moral standing than we do. Humans are always planning, cheating, bitching, complaining, are vain, self centred amongst other things so how can we seriously think that we have a divine right to enter Heaven?

When our pet dies we can rest assured that it has gone to 'Heaven' and that when our time comes, we will meet them again and they will remember us. Therefore to grieve for your pet is as natural as grieving for a relative or friend. Do not feel guilty or anger when your beloved animal dies for it has come to the end of its journey in this earthly plane and has simply gone home to wait for you. Feel sorrow for your loss and for the temporary loss of your friend. This sorrow should not go on indefinitely for your pet has gone onto a better place where there is no pain or anguish and therefore you should feel comforted in this knowledge.

Every animal, large or small, deserves the same respect and treatment as we ourselves deserve and if we followed the maxim of ' Do unto others as you would have done to yourself' then perhaps we would be pure in heart as our pets are and the question of entry into 'heaven' would be a redundant one.

My Rock Star Son

Ever since I watched the 9/11 disaster from our summer home on the shores of New Jersey, this nervous Nellie has been a bit squeamish about going through the long Lincoln Tunnel that runs under the river from New Jersey and opens into the city. The city that I constantly dreamed of as a child, and that has for a long time held my heart, New York. But it finally took nothing stronger than a mother's love to pull me back again to the city of survival. My son, the rock star, was coming to town.

We arrived at Le Bar Bat on 57th Street where my husband and I were quickly ushered in behind the "big red velvet rope" guarded by men with muscles bigger than Arnold's.

Inside the door, we were stamped like a pork rump that has passed FDA inspection. From there a host herded us toward a pretty young woman in a fetching blue wig with a figure to die for who tagged us with Technicolor hospital-like bracelets that would allow us two free drinks.

She then moved us on to another amazingly handsome young man with the whitest teeth I have ever seen who pinned us with flashing lapel pins that said something I couldn't for the life of me read upside down. It could have said "Big Jerk for Letting This be Pinned on You", for all I knew. He then sent us on to another beautiful girl wearing a pink wig who decked us out in fluorescent blue neck ring. I think she said something about free massages and Tarot card reading, but before I could question my hearing that was altered severely by my rock concert earplugs, we were moved along like a herd of cattle by the swell of enthusiastic Tonic fans behind us.

One would think that after a few years of attending rock concerts and hanging out in the dressing room with kids who are my age divided by three, that I would be used to it by now. But long ago I have given up my pathetic attempts to blend in and not be so obviously, "What is she doing here?" The truth is that even the 'clueless' figure out that my husband and I have to be someone's parents.

Trust me, if you ever want to feel your age, just go to a rock concert. It is a humbling experience being with kids who never think they are ever going to be, nor look as old as you.

But in the end there is sweet ex-girlfriend revenge for old folks like us. While others are tramping through the cold to city garages, or waiting in the chilly night wind for a cab, bus, or subway to take them home, life can be sweet for the parents of a rock star.

For instance, when your son gives you a lift at 3 a.m. back to your Chelsea apartment in his new bright tour bus that is as long as a New York City cross-town block and the color of Christmas. And better than that, when he then drops you smack in front of your canopied door, you know you have a special life.

So what if the few bleary-eyed people wandering in the streets at that ungodly hour were scratching their heads at us two tired button-down seniors hopping (actually dragging) out of this crimson machine made to carry only young, hip people. And, okay, what if being supportive of your kid's things kind of makes you seem crazy sometimes. The truth for us is that there are no better perks that stepping out of a big red bus in the middle of the morning after a great night of forgetting how old you really are. Life just doesn't get better than that!

Meditation, Entertainment Choices, and Happiness

Meditation usually keeps me in a very blissed out or peaceful state. Yet a few mornings ago I found myself swimming in negativity. It was the usual stuff - money problems, blaming others, and a whirlwind of thinking.

I even had trouble starting the car.

What the heck was going on?

Then I realized what I had done the night before. I'd watched a dvd rental of the movie "The Interpreter". By most standards the movie was fantastic. There was brilliant acting by academy award winners Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.

The story was absolutely riveting. White knuckles all around. The timing was brilliant.

Yet the next morning I was swimming in an emotional swamp. That was me, the meditation devotee, rubbing elbows with Swamp Thing.

It might have had a lot to do with what I put into my mind just before bedtime. The movie began with graphic surprise murders committed by children.

Later there was fear of the unknown complete with the message that you can't trust anyone.

This kind of stuff can temporarily undo the benefits of meditation.

But the negativity continued.

The bad guy was a former humanitarian who turned into the mass murdering dictator that killed the leading lady's parents.

There was character building followed by murders. This happened over and over again.

There was a bus explosion inviting viewers to believe that it's unsafe to ride public transportation.

The show continues with opportunities to seek ex-girlfriend revenge. To kill or not to kill, that is the question.

Yuck!

Maybe this video triggered my emotional slump. Maybe the slump came from some unknown combination of factors.

The point is that we can use what we know to climb out of slumps. And we can make choices that help us minimize the number and depth of slumps.

I was able to climb upwards with the help of an observer meditation and some bliss exercises. It took six minutes to feel much better and another twenty minutes to feel a whole lot better.

We can always make a choice. We can select the most uplifting activity. We can choose what music to play. And, of course, we can choose what movies and TV shows to watch.

You can watch CSI and view horrendous images throughout the television show. For a bonus, you can hear the words "serial killer" repeated ten times in a two minute period.

Or you can make a different choice. You might choose to watch something such as "Joan of Arcadia" or "My Name is Earl". They'll remind you of some valuable life principles. FYI, these great shows are available as dvd rentals.

How do we know what's uplifting?

Popularity is no indicator of what's uplifting. Most movie and television reviews are based on other standards.

You can check with a dvd rentals website that gives you reviews based on a feel good rating or a life lesson rating.

We always have a choice.

Christian Marriage - Should You Forgive Your Spouse, Even When it Really Hurts?

There are times, even in an otherwise vibrant Christian marriage, when one spouse does something to really hurt you,that is so unexpected that you don't think you could ever forgive them; but if we are to be Christ like, we should forgive and there are other times when you really need to call it quits.

Physical Abuse:

If your spouse is using you for target practice, a punching bag or just as an unhealthy outlet for their frustrations, you should not subject yourself or any children you might have to that abuse and you will need to get the authorities involved.

This is not just a topic that only affects secular people;but it is something that has invaded Christian marriage as well,as some men misread the verses in the bible about the wife being urged to submit to her husband and thus the husband feels that he can do whatever he wants physically, sexually or otherwise,

The truth is that verse in Ephesians 5 recognizes the differences in males and females in Christian marriage and assigns different roles for each. Men and women are vastly different not just physically but in their attitudes, the way they think etc, Different;but of equal worth to God.

There is a common misconception that only men are the abusers, and this is just wrong and while it is true that much more physical abuse is caused by men, Women do abuse their husbands and it is vastly underreported as most men and society see a man who reports being attacked as a sign of weakness and so the man is terrified of anyone knowing about it, as most of society will shake their head and think "What a weakling He can't even "control" his wife" Women can be very violent, stalking psychos as well.

A case (fiction) of this was chronicled in the 1993 TV movie Men Don't Leave.

There are numerous cases of violence between spouses like the case of a woman a few years ago, who waited too long to get police protection and right as she was walking in the police station, her husband shot and killed her and then took his own life.

Or The more recent case of this young mother who shot and killed her pastor husband to death, that just goes to show you that as Christians, we do not live in a vacuum, what happens in the world does affect the church.

The fact is, if you are in a relationship, even if you thought your spouse knew the Lord and yet they perpetrate ANY acts of violence towards you (or excessive discipline toward any children you two might have) The authorities will have to get involved. And yet, you do still have the option of forgiving them if they are truly sincere and agree to really get help without your spouse making any excuses.

This is a really tough judgment call for you to make as you don't want to potentially put yourself or children at risk.

You are not being a "doormat" for doing so, we are to be Christ like but again not subject yourself or your children to physical or emotional abuse and your spouse must earn your trust.

Cheating:

Cheating is at epidemic proportions and some experts say that infidelity,while still seen as wrong by a lot of people, its becoming more and more "culturally acceptable" I find that statement sad; but more and more true,even among Christians,

If your spouse has betrayed you by having sex with someone else, you have every right to get angry and feel resentment toward that lying cheater and biblically you have the right to tell them to take a flying leap off a 50 storey building (i.e end the marriage)

They have destroyed the trust you had in them, set a bad example for the kids and endangered your life potentially with all these various sexually transmitted diseases,with new ones coming out on the scene,it seems, every year.

You do also have the option of putting aside that desire for ex-girlfriend revenge and hurt (as bad as it is) and find out if your marriage is worth saving. God says in Malachi 2v16 that he hates divorce and that it covers one's clothes with violence, most divorces are not pretty and you have charges and counter charges leveled at each other (some intentionally and blatantly false to gain the judge's favor.)

So while you have two choices of trying to rebuild the lost trust or ending the marriage, a lot of thought should be given to this, you might need to spend some time apart, see your pastor for some insight.

Then if you want to forgive you must forgive completely and not constantly use it as a way to get your way, that is not Christ like forgiveness and this is ONLY if the cheater comes clean on how long, and how many partners they've been with and if they really wants to stay as well and has agreed to counseling and has repented before God, it will take time to rebuild that trust because cheaters do sometimes revert back to cheating again, once again endangering your life so you need to use the old President Reagan adage of "Trust Buy Verify i.e keep an eye open for awhile and don't ignore signs of cheating.

Emotional Abuse

Sometimes no matter how hard your spouse tries nothing seems to be going right in their life (especially career wise) and when they for example were passed over for a promotion,lost a lot of money on the stock market or after spending two hard years of operating that business that has now gone bust,does your spouse take out that frustration on you and constantly berate you,call you names and make you feel low or does that to the kids?

Ending your christian marriage must not be the first option and you should try to reach out to your spouse and the both of you should seek God more and your pastor's counsel as well,

I know it hurts to live that way; but if you follow the crowd, divorce would be the first option, Every person has their limits and yours must be guided by a Christ's example not the world's and your spouse's emotional abuse could be a precursor of things to come (i.e violence) and if that occurs GET OUT.

When Divorced Or Widowed Folks Pray, Is God Really The Grand Puppeteer In The Sky?

So often, we hear folks saying something to the effect of: "God is not listening to me, He never answers my prayers,""I prayed for my husband to come back and he didn't. Where is God?" "I have so many problems, there's no way God will answer me." "Why did God take my husband or ex-girlfriend revenge. We were not finished living our lives together."

Any way one may express it, they, in reality, are saying, "I pray, but I don't believe it will happen." That could be called a lack of faith, or maybe just a lack of understanding of the offer: "Ask and you shall receive."

God does not take our loved ones from us, they leave, because of illness to the body or maybe they have lived so long their bodies are worn out and need rest. Death could come because of our own failings of not taking care of this body. Sometimes mental illness causes suicide. Is that the Hand of God? Is God pulling the strings? Of course not!

In divorce, the death of a marriage is caused by one or the other, or both partners, failing in being able to stand by their vows. Since in marriage, we are considered "one" by God, both will be affected by the action of divorce. It isn't about whose fault it is, it is about a broken covenant. Both will be affected, but in different ways. And yes, it hurts. This is when we should remind ourselves that when Christ died on the cross for sins that were not his own, He hurt, also.

Sometimes God says "No," just as ones own parents have said, "No!" Who does not remember thinking about the "unfairness" of that answer from their parent?

To demonstrate, I will use an example of a parent/teen-age relationship. Let's say, I really want to go to a special dance. I pray fervently that my father will grant my most special wish. I ask him to allow me to borrow the car. I promise to drive carefully and not show off by drag racing. I will get home on time and follow all of the rules.
My father may say, "Yes," but then again, he may say, "NO!"

If he says Yes, I am happy, but if he says No, I will be extremely, disappointed, I may even be angry and say, "You don't love me!" I may even ask "Why didn't you answer my prayer, God? You said, You love me?"

In defense of the father, it is possible that he has heard about a possible rumble at the dance or is not pleased with the friends his child is traveling with. Maybe he is in need of the car on that date.

There are many reasons to say "No." God also, (like the father) is aware of reasons for a "No" answer.We do not always have privy to His all-knowing, decisions. And so we claim, "God is not listening to me." Or "God doesn't answer my prayers."

When we pray to God for any requests, there is one element that we should always remember, God is not the Grand Puppeteer in the Sky! He does not pull the strings of our lives! We have been given the gift of free will. God gave us free will to do right or wrong or even the right to not act at all.God does not step in with a big stick and menacingly shake it at us, when we act against His will or His judgment. We are responsible for our own choices. At the times that we make wrong decisions, we may wonder why God doesn't agree with us.Prayer should not be like a trip to the gas station, "Fill 'er up God!"

And as a loving Father, I am sure He is disappointed in some of our choices, just as He is proud of the good choices we make.

God is not a puppeteer. God is not deaf. He just patiently waits for us to learn our lessons. And He loves even in spite of our folly.

What to Look For When Choosing a Diamond

What goes hand in hand with weddings and engagements? If you don't know the answer all you need to do is ask your wife, fiance or ex-girlfriend revenge. The answer is jewelry. The very act of giving jewelry from one to another is almost as timeless as love itself. It's not just the gesture of giving a ring but it's what the ring represents-you're undying affection and care for your soul mate. With that being said the importance of the ring you choose cannot be underestimated. But where do you even start? What do you look for when choosing a diamond for your future wife?

When it comes time for you to select a diamond for that special someone the first rule is that bigger isn't necessarily better. Great diamonds also rely on a great cut. They call this Diamond Clarity. Diamond Clarity goes from ''FL'' to I (3). An ''FL'' ranking means the diamond has a flawless cut and is nearly impossible to find. An I (3) ranking means the diamond is very imperfect and has many flaws. While a poor cut could possibly mean a dull diamond a great cut means a precious commodity.

Secondly you must pay very close attention to the color. When it comes to color less is more and you will notice that right away by the price on the tag. Since color steals from the brilliance of the diamond best diamonds are nearly colorless. The diamond color scale ranks diamonds in color from ''D'' to ''Z''. A ''D'' ranking means the diamond is colorless, whereas a ''Z'' ranking means the diamond has a severe yellow coloring to it. Obviously, the closer you can get to ''D'', the better.

Diamonds come in 7 different shapes: emerald, heart, marquise, oval, pear, princess, and round. This all comes down to a personal preference. If you're planning to give the ring as a surprise you'll have to do your detective work. Note the type of jewelry your special someone wears. If she's accustomed to simple rings then a bulky diamond such as a pear shaped will stick out further and be more apt to hit a surface. One of the best techniques is to inquire with one of her close friends or family.

The last and definitely not least is the weight of the diamond. This is called Carats. Carats are often confused with the size, but it is a measurement of weight. One carat is the equivalent of 200 milligrams. One carat can be divided into 100 "points". A .75 carat diamond is the same as 75 points or a 3/4 carat diamond. To begin with, the best place to buy really cheap plane tickets is online. Travel agencies can't compete with discount ticket sites. Search Google ("cheap airfare south america", for example), or try the well-known sites, like Expedia, Travelocity, Cheap Tickets, Hotwire or Priceline.

Just now I checked fares from Tucson, Arizona to Traverse City, Michigan on the five sites mentioned above. The cheapest quotes ranged from $704 to $432. Nevermind which was cheapest (oh, okay, it was Expedia), because you never know from day to day which sites will find the cheapest flights.

Check at least three places. In this case, it would mean a savings of $272. The flight durations are within minutes of each other, by the way, and the food is probably equally bad on all the flights.

Flexibility For Even Cheaper Airfare

The more flexible you are, the better your chance of getting a really cheap plane tickets. Try different departure and return dates if you can. Check the box "2 or more connecting flights". Mark the "anytime" departure, even if you don't want to leave at midnight - the savings might change your mind. Try all the options. This is Part 1 of a series of articles to follow, discussing how to understand your dog.

Pack Mentality:

Let's face it. Sometime dogs do the strangest things. Like sniffing everything, rolling in the dirt right after you gave her a bath and eating some items that are repulsive to us.

Does your dog occasionally do things you thought she knew not to do? Does she stand and stare at you when you call her? Does she bark at inappropriate times? If so, you have a dog that owns a pet...you! Your dog is in control of your relationship instead of the other way around.

To understand your dog, you need to understand a dog's mentality. This is a large subject and could consume books, so we will discuss just one of the most important aspects of a dog's mentality. And, it is this...dogs are pack animals. Although dogs have been domesticated for hundreds of years, they still have an inherent pack mentality. This means your dog considers you and every member of your household members of her pack.

Your dog expects (actually requires) that the pack have a leader and followers. Someone must be the boss. There is no democracy expected within the pack. In light of this, you must assume the role of leader. Because if you do not, your dog will!

When the dog is the leader, it usually leads to discord in the household. The dog begins to take you for a walk rather than you taking her for a walk. Eventually, you become unhappy with the dog's behavior and the dog becomes unhappy because you are unhappy.

Being the leader of the pack is not something the dog knowingly pursues. She does it if there is no other clear leader. She is perfectly happy for you to be the leader. And controlling her food and access to the house or yard does not make you the leader in her mind.

There are several specific things you should do to establish that you are the leader. Here are a few:

1. Do not allow your dog to sleep in your bed. Dogs expect the leader to have the best sleeping quarters. When she sleeps where you sleep, it confuses her as to who is the leader.

2. When passing through a door together, do not allow your dog to lead. Gently, position her behind you so that she follows.

3. If you and your dog eat around the same time, never feed your dog before you eat. And never feed her from your plate while you eat. She must learn that the leader eats first (actually she expects this) and she always eats after you.

4. Do not allow your dog to dictate when she gets attention. If she jumps, scratches or barks, ignore her until she stops. Then give her attention. She will learn that you determine when she gets petted or a treat.

Some of these actions may appear a little cold or harsh but, in the end, they will provide you with a happier pet and more tranquil household.

Above all, in every interaction with your dog or any other pet make sure you comply with the following rules:

1. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER hit your dog. Not with your hand, your foot, a newspaper or anything else. This will instill fear in your dog. You want a dog that loves and respects you, not one that fears you.

2. Do not scream or make threatening motions at your dog. Same reason as above. A stern voice and your natural body language is all you will ever need to discipline your dog. Your dog can sense when you are angry through observing your body language. And, when the leader is unhappy, she knows she has misbehaved. It may take her a while to figure out just what she did wrong, but she will understand when the scenario is repeated a few times.

3. Dogs are social animals (remember "pack"?). It is unnatural and cruel to leave your dog alone for extended periods. And, please, never tie a dog to a rope in the yard for days alone. If you must do this, why do you even want the dog? Give her to someone that will take care of her.

Your dog truly can be your best friend. She never questions your motives. She can have fear, but she does not know how to hate or deceive. She will never lie or seek ex-girlfriend revenge. All those traits are reserved for another species of this world. So love your friend and she will repay you with loyalty, love and companionship that is so very rare.

The past years have proved to be the fatter ones of their lives, amassing wealth from kickbacks on governmental contracts.

From the lips of a close friend, director of Corporate Banking of a large, foreign owned Bank comes this statement :"Whenever these contractors (those fortunate enough to have a close ally - family member - in the government), are receiving paychecks amounting to hundreds of millions, the same day huge amounts are withdrawn in cash and carried away of to unknown destinations by car." Everyone knows the reason for this : to make the agreed payments to the officials who awarded the contracts.

The patience of people and those who are left out, have worn thin, they want to see punishment and 'their' justice done. But there is dissent in the ruling army ranks, for now the lower charges are ruling, Lance Corporals, Sergeant Majors, and they have a grudge against the officers who enjoyed all the privileges in the past. It is not uncommon that officers up to Major ranks are beaten, brutalized, and outright shot in attacks of frenzy, sometimes in public. The madness of the common soldiers has no limit, the ex-girlfriend revenge has just started to set in.

Answering as calm as possible I give them the details they want to know. Looting and rampaging soldiers have robbed numerous civilians and I realize that the senior member of the troop is intoxicated, a dangerous situation can erupt at any time if luck is not on my side. The drunken soldier takes the vehicle drivers 's seat and we all move in, 7 soldiers including me. In somewhat cramped condition we run into a ditch, not far off. The driver never drove a car before. I find courage and tell them that I will drive and take them to my house. I have established a kind of unspoken, relaxed feeling between us, my experience tells me how to perform this act. The soldiers faces turn to a jovial grin, we sit and converse and I ask them about the events of the past days. When I tell them of my service in the Armed Forces, they find me as their pal. All ice has been broken, and I even grab one of the FAL rifles and remove a clip, and see their embarrassed faces, for the clip contains no bullets! They ran out of bullets long ago. I laugh and they too laugh with me, everything has turned out so well. After I give them some of the Champagne, and drop them back to the main road. We are friends now, and should I need their help in the future, they will be there. We say good bye and wishing each other good luck, the fate of my friend almost forgotten.

I drive back in deep thoughts, contemplating the events and the seriousness of it, it could have ended up in tragedy. When I leave the car, I notice the largest bottle of 'Hermes' perfume I ever came across at, in the hat rack of my car. The soldiers had left it. Forgotten, a reminder of other people 's loss - another man 's gain. Never could I find the owners of the perfume, some Lebanese or Indians presumably who are not as lucky, for all males are rounded up and sent to Military camps for detention....

5 Rules For Divorced Dads

As a child of divorce (my parents divorced when I was four), I can personally say that divorce can be, or maybe always is, hardest on the kids. It should be a decision of last resort when kids are involved and very clearly the "least bad" of your options in a bad marriage.

That said, it does occur and divorced dads have special challenges.

Divorced dads have a lot to prove since they will likely take at least half the blame for the break up of the family. If you're a divorced dad, you are also likely to have lost custody of your kids. You're less present for them everyday and need to make the most of your time with your kids.

Divorced dads should follow all the tips for regular dads, but should be especially attentive to these.

Never date or marry any woman who wants to put herself ahead of your kids. It doesn't matter how pretty, sexy, wealthy, intelligent, funny or seemingly caring she is. When you had kids, you made a covenant to put them ahead of everything. When all else fades, your relationship with them will be the strongest love of your life.

Never compare siblings. This goes doubly for step-brothers and sisters. If you compare them for any reason, at almost any age, you give your own children a reason to doubt your love for them.

Make twice the effort to be at every game, school play, and birthday.

A corollary to #3, move or stay wherever your kids live. Other places may beckon but your place is close to your family.

Never discuss your ex-ex-girlfriend revenge. This last might be especially difficult given the circumstances for your divorce. However, no matter how great the joy may be in the moment to say something negative about your ex-spouse, you will gain nothing from it in the long run. If your spouse is as bad as you say, it will be obvious to the kids. If not, they will hold it against you.

Poisoned Petals by Andy Crabb is a set of over forty short stories, tales with a Spanish flavour. Most are set in Spain, with many featuring locations and people from within the Costa Blanca, where the author lives, works and continually observes. Some are historical, others utterly contemporary, both in time and in content. Property developers, estate agents and used car salesmen figure alongside more traditional Spanish figures, such as the bar owner, the peasant farmer and the land owner. Some stories feature characters from Spain's Moorish period, and others pre-Visigoth, even pre-Roman Iberians.

It is surprising, therefore, to read in the highly informative author's postscript that several of the pieces germinated elsewhere, in Britain and southern Africa, for instance. Some were transplanted items from newspaper stories, while others arose from museum visits, local tales or shared discussion with other writers. But the stories grew in Andy Crabb's fertile imagination and bloomed into a veritable display of skilful, entertaining writing. The fact that the author claims they eventually flowered into Poisoned Petals gives the reader a hint from the start that irony and twist will play their part.

Many of Andy Crabb's stories deal with the sibling concepts of ex-girlfriend revenge and retribution. People are often "getting away with something", getting one up on an innocent or unsuspecting victim. Driven to anger by such perfidious exploitation, these inherently gentler, law-abiding characters themselves become vengeful, calculating deceivers, until the score is decisively settled. In often morally satisfying conclusions, many of the original villains receive a comeuppance that is significantly sweeter than mere defeat, longer lasting than simple victory. And each of these conclusions has been richly deserved.

In Preserved For Posterity, for instance, the retribution of the wronged husband is horrid in the extreme. But then the unjustly punished lover-thief-craftsman of the story was never really guilty of his accused crime. We know that. But then that's perhaps why he has the final, though silent, laugh at the judgment of eternity.

So it is ideas of morality and justice, honesty and loyalty that suffuse Poisoned Petals. We are presented with people who try to ride roughshod over others, whose understandable, merely human hesitancy, born of their desire to uphold and respect another's potential for dignity, identifies them as potential prey. Usually the victims win through in the end, turning the tables decisively on their predators. But this often happens only after the victims, themselves, have displayed their ability to become, if provoked, as devious, as base, as calculating and, indeed, as mercenary as the objects of their retribution.

And so Poisoned Petals gives some beautiful insights into human behaviour, some vivid illustrations of resourcefulness. It is a collection to read over a week or two, a few stories at a time, since each is self-contained and memorable. The stories provoke us to reflect on that human condition, and profitably, enjoyably so.

How I Got Started Investing in Fixer Uppers

We stay focused on what we do best- buy, fix, and rent. And, if you do something often enough, you get pretty good at it.

We worked like dogs, we slept like logs and we ate like hogs! But, now we have the routine down, and are making good money with less effort in our fixer-upper business.

Investing in fixer-uppers is a great way to get a business going in your spare time. It can allow you to gradually build up financial security, and eventually change into a career where you control your destiny.

Is Now a Bad Time to Invest?

When I bought my first house, many thought I was crazy. Following 9/11 there was a great deal of uncertainty about what would happen next. Would the country go to war? Would I lose my job? Would the economy go down the toilet?

Today, because of the possibility of a recession, people are making the same arguments. But remember, you don't make money by buying houses when the economy is strong. Prices are too high then. You make your money when the economy is weak, and housing prices are low and negotiable.

Alternative Treatment For Eating Disorders

Eating Disorders are an outward expression of emotional turmoil or deep unhappiness. Sufferers concentrate on food and eating as a way to avoid looking at their problems and to exert control over their own body, when they may otherwise feel powerless in the world.

Although anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are probably the best-known expressions of this condition, there are many kinds of eating disorders, some more extreme than others. Compulsive eating, compulsive dieting, binge eating, comfort eating, laxative abuse, and faddy eating are all forms of eating disorder.

People with eating disorders do not like food; for them it is an addiction. Anorexics regard it as an enemy to be avoided at all costs. Bulimics choose food that will be easy to regurgitate; binge eaters will eat whatever is in the refrigerator or cupboards, however unappetizing it may be; comfort eaters choose indulgent, easy-to-eat foods - cookies, cakes, candies, white bread, all of which produce short-term contentment by releasing serotonins in the brain.

Such distorted views of food and eating are different in every individual case and often have their roots in family history. Anorexia nervosa, for example; is characteristically associated with adolescent girls who suffer from low self-esteem and who may feel powerless in their relationship with the rest of the family. There are other factors that affect young people with this disorder; it is argued, with some success, that outside pressures have a great effect especially on adolescents who feel under pressure to conform to the current popular notion that "thin is beautiful."

However, other eating disorders will also respond to an examination of this area; staying fat in a world where thin is considered beautiful may allow you to step out of the arena of courtship, which may be a goal for people who are uncomfortable with sexual relationships. Deciding to be fat may be a form of ex-girlfriend revenge, especially in a mother-daughter relationship where the mother has been too dominant. Counseling and psychotherapy from a trained practitioner can help these cases, once the reason why the decision to either eat yourself to obesity or to starve yourself into a nonperson have been addressed.

Very few cases have a physical origin, although naturopaths and nutritionists may make a careful analysis of thyroid activity to see if any minor imbalance in the production of thyroxine may be causing excess weight gain or loss. People who eat for comfort may respond to a course of enjoyable exercise to produce serotonin. Once they have done that, a sensible eating regime can be established, and they can address the problem of why they are unhappy from a more rational standpoint.

However, once recovery is underway, a naturopath or nutritionist should be consulted to help establish a healthy, enjoyable, and nutritious diet and to prescribe supplements to support recovery and maintain the new status.

Life is incredulous. How can it be that one moment we can be at our total depth, helpless and completely vulnerable, and then, only a matter of hours later, we're at peace again? The next step, miraculously, we find a way out.

February 23, 2004, was a day I will never forget. In fact, that few days ensuing from this date was unforgettable. I had been separated from my then ex-girlfriend revenge for five months and was seemingly over the worst of the grief of the event of separation.

Without much warning I swan-dived into an abyss. I recall being at work and being all at sea for the entire morning. Desperate for solace I contacted a helpline and chatted for twenty minutes or so. It didn't really help me.

When I reached the end of my tether I visited the site manager and explained I needed time off--he was very sympathetic having only recently gone through the pain of separation himself.

I can recall feeling so overwhelmed and consumed with sorrow and perplexity, the process was mentally torturous. I was rapidly reaching the end of my reasonable mind.

Without going into the sordid details, I approached what I'd call a 'fork in the road.' At this point I had an option to end it all, or try (once again) to seek help. God helped me as I instinctively chose the latter option.

A matter of an hour or two later, I had had that cleansing, loving and encouraging chat with my parents on the patio of their home that proved pivotal and turned the corner for me. It was one of the most defining points in my life.

How often do people suicide when that turning point might still be part of their near destinies? Salvation is closer than we think.

This event for me was the second time I had experienced such reason that saved me from a perilous end. The legacy of my daughters pulled me through.

My brother-in-law told me recently of his mechanic who'd suicided and left a young ex-girlfriend revenge and newborn child. There were no warning signs apparently. It's senseless.

I always wonder in these situations... on the other side, would he be thinking, "Why did I do that," as he faces possible eternal purgatory and separation from his partner and child (and future children), life, grandchildren etc.

Once death occurs, that's it. It might seem obvious, but we only die once. Once we've died it's over; life's too short. None of us get enough time here, so why would we (in our right minds) end it?

Yet, the reality is many do it; succeed that is. Right now, this very minute, people all around the world are ending their lives, bringing an end to the potential of life, and sorrow to those who remain. Some perhaps do it because they tire of life; fatigue does it in the end. Some do it due to unfit mind; others perhaps mistakenly succeed... now, that's a huge tragedy.

It's a tragedy that I can personally identify with and I think most people have been touched by it. As a society, we must do more for this hidden dilemma. We never hear of it until we're hit personally with it. We must raise or create more awareness. We have to do something to prevent at least some of these tragedies.

We somehow must get the message out there that deliverance, recovery and life is close at hand if we don't give up.

[To end my story which I started initially... from February 23, 2004 I experienced more spiritual recovery and the ensuing few months saw much strengthening occur within me. It was part of the journey for me in becoming the more well-adjusted person I am today. I am very thankful to God for it.]

Confronting the Enemy Within

Life never turns the way you expect it to. There's an order to it all, but the details are so minuscule and so convoluted, that trying to sort them all out and comprehend them is utterly beyond us and our technology. One of the cornerstones of our interaction with the world of the 21st Century (or, any century, for that matter) is the Chaos Theory. The order of the universe lies hidden within the chaos that arises from the limitations of our knowledge, to appear only like silhouettes of lovers on a window shade. The subtleties of matter and energy throughout the universe are unknowable to us in their entirety, and, even those aspects that we do know are subject to the limitations of our measuring systems. So long as there is the least imperfection in our human knowing, chaos will control our prediction of the future.

Success in life is almost always counter-intuitive. About 15 years ago, I decided to buy a motorcycle. To get my license endorsement, I had to take a course and pass both a written and driving exam. What most struck me about learning the basics of controlling a motorcycle is that it doesn't steer like a bicycle. As a kid, I often used to ride my bike 'no hands', leaning left to turn left and right to turn right. Oddly, on a motorcycle, you lean away from the direction of the turn. I still haven't got the physics of that straight in my head; all I know for sure - from personal experience - is that it works.

Sometimes I even remember that life works the same way. The 'intuitive' approach very often rewards us with exactly the opposite of the result we were hoping for (and, most often, anticipating). Here's a great example: applying persuasive techniques to encourage a system to change will almost always succeed only in motivating everyone to turn on you. If you do wield sufficient power to get the system to pay attention to you, you'll first be met with all the reasons why your approach won't work, then, to prove you wrong, the members of the system will make sure that any changes that do occur will be superficial and short-lived. I've often said that for a leader to change a system means that he or she has to do the radical changing, then enlist the system's help in promoting that change.

Confronting an opponent with force only makes that opponent stronger. That's a lesson that Asians learned many centuries ago, and still teach. It's also a lesson that we have yet to learn. To overpower others consists not in forcing ourselves on them, but, rather, in neutralizing their power by allowing them to expend it harmlessly. Sometime that means absorbing their blows.

The traditional approaches to the exercise of power no longer achieve their goals, either in the world, in a country, or in a family. Negative approaches like anger, hatred, ex-girlfriend revenge and punishment produce the opposite of their desired effect (as in Iraq, so in a rebellious child). The tighter we hold on to control, the more out-of-control a system will grow. The deeper our fear of an 'enemy', the more fearsome that 'enemy' will become.

Eventually each of us will have to learn the 'ropes' of handling the wildness of a life: we'll have to lean left if we want to go right, and vice-versa. Even then, if we learn our lesson really well, we'll discover that where we finally end up is nowhere near where we expected to. It will surely be entirely different from anything we imagined - better, but entirely different. If you want to be successful at this game called 'life', you're going to have to lay aside your expectations, and climb on to enjoy the ride!

Whatever the circumstances, however, Nefertiti simply disappeared and there is no record of her death nor has her mummy or place of burial been confirmed. Her husband, Akhenaten died about several years later under circumstances just as mysterious. His mummy has not been found either.

Famed throughout the ancient world for her outstanding beauty, Akhenaten's queen Nefertiti remains the one of the most well known and mysterious queens of ancient Egypt.

Pirate Ghosts - Tales of Hauntings at Sea

This compilation of horror shorts written by such literary giants as H. P. Lovecraft, Robert Bloch and Washington Irving promises the reader 'with bloodcurdling buccaneers, spectral ships, uncanny experiences under the Jolly Roger and eerie spirits from a historic past that refuses to stay dead'. Pretty high expectations, huh?

The anthology could have been renamed Caribbean Magic Ghosts with some Piracy Themes Thrown in the Mix. Few had pirates as main characters and just as many did not even contain any manner of sea rovers.

This is not to say that the anthology, compiled by Frank McSherry, Jr., Charles G. Waugh and Martin H. Greenberg isn't an entertaining read. The short stories contain some great horror themes and effectively scare the reader.

H. P. Lovecraft's The Terrible Old Man is one such story that eschews the piracy theme but is as creepy as Robert Bloch's The Red Swimmer, a great story of ex-girlfriend revenge on a bloodthirsty pirate.

The lengthiest short, Henry S. Whitehead's Seven Turns in a Hangman's Rope is a tedious read as he lays on one subordinate clause after another, extending sentences into paragraphs. The detail in which he describes the depth of the white witch's knowledge and experience into voodoo and obeah was unnecessary, gaging its lack of impact on any of the climatic scenes.

August Derlith's The Blue Spectacles, Carl Jacobi's The Digging at Pistol Key and John Masefield's Anty Bligh, along with the tales of Irving, Lovecraft and Bloch are just plain spooky fun. These are wonderful tales of vengeful ghosts, macabre magic (and a pirate or two) all thrown in with eerie tropical settings. Since I recently reviewed a biography of Jean Lafitte by Jack C. Ramsay Jr., I was pleased to see the dashing pirate appear in The Blue Spectacles. It and Irving's story were the only two with pirate ghosts.

Clark Ashton Smith's A Vintage from Atlantis is a short read that contains some of the best pirates in the book, but tends to get preachy. Before I Wake by Henry Kuttner is a slow-moving tale of a young boy haunted by dreams of sailing to magical places. Pirates are mentioned as part of his fantasy while the story clutches the island magic obeah tightly to its breast.

Lady Eleanor Smith's No Ships Pass could probably be the forerunner of the Twilight Zone-esque 'you are here now and there is no way back' theme. Again short on pirates, but a great story.

Pirate Ghosts is a must read for lovers of the horror genre but not for the pirate aficionado or fan. The Caribbean magic has interwoven a spell among the pages and presides over the stories, and gives us a nice tropical scare.

A Biography of Isaac Asimov

Isaac Asimov is one of the best known science fiction writers of all time. In part that is probably due to the sheer volume of material which he wrote, but it is also due to the scale of his imaginative vision.

Over the course of 50 years, Asimov wrote over 500 books, essays and short stories. He won four Hugo Awards and one Nebular Award along with countless other lesser known awards.

Biography

Isaac Asimov was more than simply a science fiction writer. A biochemist with a Ph.D. to his name, Asimov also wrote a number of popularized science books which explain many scientific concepts in a historical way. A long time member of Mensa (whom he described as intellectually combative), he was more proud of being president of the American Humanist Association.

Born in Russia on January 2nd, 1920, Asimov grew up in the United States from the age of three. He began writing his own stories as early as age eleven and his career took off in earnest when in 1939 he published the short story Marooned Off Vesta in Amazing Stories.

Asimov went to Columbia University, graduating in 1939 and going on to earn a Ph. D. in biochemistry in 1948. During the 40s he spent three years working at the naval Air Experimental Station at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. After the end of World War II he was drafted into the United States Army for nine months before receiving an honorable discharge.

Asimov married Gertrude Blugerman on July 26, 1942 and subsequently they had two children together David in 1951 and Robyn Joan in 1955.

After completing his doctorate, Asimov became a member of faculty at Boston University. In 1958 he became a full time writer, though he maintained an association with Boston in a non-teaching capacity.

Isaac Asimov was a firm Humanist and rationalist. He respected what he saw as genuine religious conviction in others but was vocal in his opposition of what he believed to be superstitious or unfounded beliefs.

A progressive on many issues, Asimov was a strong supporter of the Democratic Party and opposed the Vietnam War in the 1960s.

Asimov and his first ex-girlfriend revenge were divorced in 1973. He met his soon to be second ex-girlfriend revenge Janet that same year.

Psychohistory is a fictional science which posits that the course of history can be charted using mathematics to predict how large populations will react to situations.

Around this time Asimov also began to write his Robot stories, which presented the Three laws of Robotics, a set of ethics for robots. Many of these stories were collected as I, Robot in 1950. The Three Laws of Robotics have become so ingrained in science fiction culture that it is not uncommon to see them referenced in the work of other writers.

In 1977, Asimov lent his name to Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, penning an editorial for each issue.. The magazine continues, now bearing the name Asimov's Science Fiction.

In 1982, Asimov returned to both the Foundation and Robot stories, tying them together with his books Foundation's Edge (1982) and Foundation and Earth (1986). Asimov then went on to write prequels to the Foundation stories with Prelude to Foundation (1988) and Forward the Foundation (1992)

James was the second surviving son of Charles I and Henrietta Maria of France and was born on 14 October 1633. When Charles I was executed in 1649, monarchists proclaimed James' older brother, Charles, as King Charles II. Both brothers sought refuge on the Continent, where James fought in both the French and Spanish armies. During his service with the Spanish army, he became close with two Irish Catholic brothers, Peter and Richard Talbot who were in the Royalist household. Under the Talbot's influence James became estranged from Charles' Anglican advisors.

After Cromwell's death in 1658 and the subsequent collapse of the Commonwealth, Charles II was restored to the throne. Airsoft Guns - A Great Alternative

I am a father of 2 young boys, and with boys they love their guns. The gun could be their finger, lego blocks or a toy gun. My ex-girlfriend revenge and I thought long and hard about purchasing them a practice rifle, like a 22 caliber, but saw many risks of owning a real firearm with kids.

After some research we found airsoft guns, they are replicas of real guns without the extreme danger. Of course, if not used properly they could get injured, but we're only talking about a welt or bruise like with paintball. The spring airsoft guns offer them the chance to learn the rules of firearm safety and hone their shooting skills without risk of bodily harm.

Even though the airsoft guns are not real, with the look and feel of real firearms, our boys don't seem to mind. It's something my boys and I can do and enjoy together, and that's the best part. It helps that it's an inexpensive activity unlike anything else kids like to do these days.

At the moment we only have spring airsoft cheap guns, which have a low rate of fire, but once the boys are more experienced I intend on getting some electric airsoft rifles and even a gas powered one as well. The gas guns interest me especially, my ex-girlfriend revenge likes them too. My eyes lit up when I read that many electric and gas guns are full auto fire.

What does it mean to conduct oneself as a professional?

Someone that is consummate professional in their career and in their life is essentially a strong leader. Years ago I was the drum major for my high school band, a position that I am proud to have held because of all that it taught me about communication and leadership. I learned many valuable lessons in this role and in the leadership seminar that prepared me for the responsibility of acting as a mentor, role model, and conductor for a group of peers. Someone that is considered to be a true professional has the ability to motivate people just as a leader must.

Positive Presence

Someone that has a positive presence does not complain. Complaining, by definition, is the expression of "dissatisfaction, pain, uneasiness, censure, resentment, or grief" (Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1). Random House, Inc.). When I say that someone who is a professional does not complain, I do not mean that he/she cannot ever express displeasure, only that formal grievances deserve proper attention in the proper setting. Informal complaining (or whining, whinging, grumbling, if you will) is not constructive, particularly if it is out loud to anyone that has ears, and professionals seek to be constructive.

Everyone has moments when they complain. It is human nature to want to get things off one's chest in that way. In keeping with what appears to be a theme, I'll now offer another marching band allegory. Band camp was always in early August which, even in Pennsylvania where I grew up, is HOT. We were never allowed to utter the words "It's hot" (or any variation of this) without consequences. Sounds like a stupid rule, so why? Because everyone already knew it was hot! If you are doubting the impact this has on a group, consider what happens in, for instance, a dance class (another situation with which I'm intimately familiar), when a dance teacher calls out something like "Feet!" Students immediately think through the litany of things they could be doing wrong with their feet and they almost unconsciously begin to make adjustments, regardless of the ambiguity of the comment. In the same way, when it is 90-plus degrees (Fahrenheit) outside, it is almost impossible not to zero-in on the heat when someone else says they're hot. Voicing this complaint only reminds everyone in earshot how miserable they are feeling. As a result, collective energy is spent focusing on the complaint rather than productively pursuing the task(s) at hand.

Even when someone is simply not doing his best, and even if it is negatively impacting oneself or others, it is not appropriate for a professional to publicly point this out. No one can truly walk in another's shoes, therefore it is helpful to remember the venerable Golden Rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." As a leader, one is often put in a situation in which they are responsible for the handling of another's time. As no one is perfect, occasionally things don't go as expected. In events such as these, probably each member of the group has their own ideas about what should be done. Knowing that it is not always easy to be the leader, however, professionals resist the urge to be negative and they don't "sweat the small stuff." Instead, if a problem has become serious or too often repeated, if someone is being hurt or an injustice is being done, they find an appropriate time to meet with those who have the power to improve the situation. In addition, when it comes to making improvements, true professionals (and true leaders) use their energy to solve problems, not just identify them. Therefore, it is a true leader that will, rather than just offer a formal complaint, approach someone with possible solutions to the issue at hand.

Work Ethic, Punctuality, and Excuses

A professional has a strong work ethic. They anticipate the needs of others or what needs to be done and they do it. They do it even before someone asks or they ask permission before going forward. Anticipating a need sometimes means that one must humble himself and do what is best for the group or someone else over what is best for him as an individual. When something is asked of him, a professional does not question the request out loud. Unless he is asked for input, truly wants to clarify and understand the directions given, or is instructed to do something which is against his core beliefs, a professional will adhere to the request and later find a private moment to question if necessary.

There is a saying that states, "To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late." In other words, starting "on time" means that everyone is ready to go the very moment the class, rehearsal, or meeting is supposed to start. Being early ensures this. inevitably there is something that needs to be done just before beginning and arriving at the start time will put oneself and everyone else behind. Professionals get there well ahead of time to do what they know they need to.

Professionals don't make excuses. As with other requests, if they are offered ways in which they could improve or are reprimanded for inappropriate behavior, a professional accepts the correction (whether they agree or not), tries to apply the suggestion or do better next time, and then moves on. They do not blame unfortunate circumstances or other people for their mistakes.

Generosity

When I think of someone that displays ultimate professionalism, I see a person who is generous with their gifts, generous with their time, and generous in spirit. This person is easy to collaborate with because he/she communicates with kindness. This professional wants everyone around them to be their best and helps them to do so by being supportive and encouraging. When a colleague is struggling, this person does not belittle or put her down. He/she is aware enough to look for moments in which they can offer help that will not be embarrassing to the individual or interrupt the rest of the group. And, help does not always mean showing or telling another how to do something. Often an encouraging smile or a word or two to lighten the person's mood and frustration level is most helpful. Also, being generous does not mean that one must lie to make another person feel good. A professional offers straight-talk but avoids hurting other people in the process. A generous and professional collaborator or contributor brings out the best in others because instead of focusing on "I" and "me", a generous person concentrates on "we" and "us."

In addition to awareness of one's surroundings and of other people, a professional must also be self-aware. Generosity can be extended to oneself by understanding one's strengths, weaknesses, and limitations. No one is perfect, and a confident and self-aware person does not expect perfection of himself or of anyone else, rather he does his very best, recognizes where the strengths of others can fill in the gaps, and allows them to shine as they do their part. It is alright for a professional to ask and expect others to do their best, but he/she will offer encouragement and lead others, through example, to fulfillment of their full potential.

Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, the leader and director of that long ago drum major leadership training, is known for his statement that "you are only worth what you give away, and you can only give away what you have." In other words, to be an ultimate professional who is generous in spirit, improve what you have to give by taking responsibility for what you know and who you are, and then give it away.

When you've been wronged

Inevitably someone will disappoint you, hurt you, or do something that is unfair or unjust. It happens. And, sometimes the results are catastrophic, the pain is tremendous, and the offender seems to hold a "Get Out of Jail Free" card. Trust me, everyone faces this at some point in their professional career and/or personal lives. A professional acts with dignity in response to these situations. It is tempting to want to lash out or get ex-girlfriend revenge, but a true professional does not reduce herself to bad behavior because she knows that this is sure to backfire. For example, if a coworker complains and whispers about a peer at every opportunity and spreads rumors and gossip, they will earn a reputation for being untrustworthy. It does not matter if the complaints and rumors are true, I guarantee that even those that go along or participate in this slander do not trust this coworker. A person who goes about tearing down others is only opening themselves up to the same kind of scrutiny and backstabbing they distributed. No matter what has been done to her, a professional will always be the better person. He/she will take action through appropriate channels instead of dealing out their own form of justice.

When you're the one who has wronged

As I said before, no one is perfect. Even professionals have a bad day in which they do, say, or act in a way that is not only unprofessional but unbecoming. I am no different. Once in rehearsal for a musical, for which I was not only the choreographer but a leading character, I very publicly blew my top at a director. It was tech rehearsal, the cast and crew were tired from both building sets plus all the long hours of rehearsal, and we were running well-rehearsed scenes instead of jumping cue to cue (as is usually done during a technical rehearsal before the open of a show). Essentially my professionalism went out the window for a moment as I attempted to express the collective frustration that was reaching boiling level within the room. It was an outburst I immediately regretted, although it got results. As a professional, however, I recognized that I did not handle the situation well and that an apology was in order. After giving the director a few moments, I approached him and calmly apologized for my behavior and that it would not happen again. If I had not performed this simple act, the relationship would have been damaged, resentment would have set in, and I would have lost the respect he held for me. Being mature enough to recognize when one is out of line, apologizing, and then taking responsibility for the outcome is an important and necessary trait in someone that wants to continue to be viewed as a professional even when mistakes are made.

Final Thoughts

It is not always easy to conduct oneself as a professional but it leads to more positive and fulfilling experiences overall. A negative person creates a negative world around themselves. Positive and professional leaders have good things happen to them because they are prepared to take the bad things that happen in stride. They cannot and will not play the victim. Instead, they motivate others to join them in their outlook.

Also, age is not a factor in professionalism. I've met both very unprofessional people who have spent years and years in their career and amazingly mature children who act professionally whether they get paid to do so or not.

Fears and insecurities can damage a person's ability to think positively, act with generosity, and conduct themselves appropriately. When dealing with someone who is behaving unprofessionally, considering this helps me to deal with him/her in a more compassionate manner. I can more easily avoid behaving badly in reaction to their behavior without letting them take advantage of me or the situation.

Movie Review - Braveheart (1995)

BRAVEHEART (1995) won 5 Oscars including the Best Film and Best Director awards for Mel Gibson. It was also nominated for 5 more Oscars including the Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, penned by Randall Wallace.

William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson, is a "reluctant hero" from 13th century Scotland in the classic mythological mold described by Joseph Campbell in his Hero With a Thousand faces.

All Wallace wants to do is marry, become a farmer like his father and carry on in peace. He is a reluctant hero. But things change after his wife is slaughtered by the local men of King of England Edward the 1st -- Edward the Longshanks.

His fate forces Wallace to take on both the King of England and the Scottish landed nobility who flip sides at the drop of a hat. His desire to take his wife's ex-girlfriend revenge and set Scotland free sets him on a war path that leads to his eventual capture and public death under torture. (For trivia fans -- the COMPASSION OF CHRIST is NOT the first movie in which Gibson is stretched across a crucifix.) Yet Wallace's legacy survives his beheading and sets Scotland free in the 14th century.

Fantastic musical score with irresistible bagpipes, married to equally fantastic scenery and battle scenes jarring in their ferocity and realism, make it a good watch indeed. Wallace's last word under torture is a long scream -- "Freeeedom!" Who can remain impartial to that?

The gravel-voiced Patrick MacGoohan who plays Edward 1st is as good as Gibson since he makes a very credible foe to whip the dramatic tension nonstop throughout the film. Without a nemesis as amoral, tricky and dangerous as Edward Longshanks, Wallace's goodness and integrity would not stand out in such high relief.

Since I often write about saving your marriage by putting the spark back init, I'm often approached by women who tell me that their husband no longer loves them. Sometimes, the husband has flat out said "I don't love you anymore" quite directly - seemingly leaving no room for doubt (although they are sometimes wrong, which I will discuss later.) Sometimes, the ex-girlfriend revenge assumes that she's no longer loved by her husbandbecauseofhis indifference, his inability to show affection, of by an increasinglack of intimacy. This article will provide you with tips and tools you can use to determine your husbands true feelings and to put the spark back in your marriage so that you'll no longer wonder or have any doubt that your husband still loves you.

Why Husbands Sometimes Don't Really Mean It When They Act Like (Or Say) They Don't Love You Anymore: Many times a husband will send mixed signals about how he really feels. However, it's the relationship that you are no longer in love with - not your spouse.

From my own personal experience when I did this exercise, my own answer was almost never. We all do this, but to fix it we have to be very conscious of this mistake.It can rob our marriages of feelings of love, affection, empathy, and intimacy.

So, now that you've identified the real issues,howcan youchange things to encourage your husband to fall back in love with you? You show him (through your actions - not by telling him what you are doing) the woman he first fell in love with. Now, women often tell me things like "I agree these tactics make sense, but I'm no longer young, beautiful, etc." or "my husband is no longer attracted to or receptive to me." I'm goingtotell you a secret. Aman is often much more attracted to how awoman makes himfeel ABOUT HIMSELF than about how she looks.

A woman who can make a man feel understood, appreciated, attractive, alive, intelligent, and capable will often get back a reaction that leaves little doubt that her husband truly loves her and finds her attractive. In short, marriage is very often reciprocal. If you can make your husband feel good about himself, he will very likely return the favor.

Remember the great times you both enjoyed when dating and during your early days of marriage. Discovering your sexuality. Dining out. Setting up a home. Yes those were the days. She was the beautiful apple of your eye. He was your handsome prince. You couldn't wait for the day to end so that you could almost see the sparks fly in the heat of passion.

Now that the days and years have passed and the sparks have faded to a dull glow far off in the distance it's really time to take inventory and see what can be done to bring those great times back again.

Taking inventory. Every business must take inventory on a periodical basis. They get out the charts and computers and literally count every item in stock. These figures are tallied up and compared against the figures relating to the purchases from manufacturers and or distributors. The difference is compared to what was sold. If there are shortages the business must check it's security. Over time stuff goes missing.

The same idea can be compared to marriage. We start off with physical attributes. Great personalities. We take care with our clothing, personal hygiene, manners, respect, conversation, dining and dozens of other things that go into courtship and early marriage years.

When did you last take an inventory of your behavior with these items?

First. Take a look at your physical attributes. Have you looked in the mirror lately? Do you like what you see? Do you have extra inches where you didn't have them before? Take a serious look and tell the truth. If you were someone else looking at you would you be thrilled? Not too happy? Turned off by what you see? This self evaluation is tough to do as we hardly ever see ourselves through the eyes of someone else.

Second. Good personality and conversationalist. Take inventory of how you talk with your better half. Do you dominate the stage? Do you let the other partner carry the conversation. Are you a good listener? A good listener is much more interesting than a good talker. Do you devote more time to the TV or internet than talking with your spouse?

Third. Clothing and personal hygiene. Remember back then when you were dating. You would shower and dress to the hilt. You wanted to look your best when you went out. Take a look at you now. Do you dress like a slob? Baggy track pants, an old tee shirt. Haven't shaved for three days. Again, take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror. Would you be attractive to anyone.

Fourth. Respect. Possibly the most important check point of all. Remember the old expression "familiarity breeds contempt". It is so easy to slip away from respecting your mate. As time passes we may find that the shine has come off the marriage excitement, but that is no reason why we should not respect our husbands or wives. Men especially may find themselves referring to their wives as "the ex-girlfriend revenge". That may be acceptable when telling someone about "the dog" but never someone who you respect. Remember, you married your spouse. He or she is your life mate. Treat him/her with love and respect.

Fifth. Dining. This may seem to be a strange check point but think about it. How many of us work all day, arrive home hungry and stressed? Hannibal Rising Movie Review

BOTTOM LINE: Despite some great cinematography, an effective atmosphere, and a decent attempt by the lead actor to mimic Anthony Hopkins' original performance as Hannibal, this is a completely pointless sequel with no shocks or surprises, that unnecessarily demystifies the character of Hannibal Lecter and in the process makes him less scary.

THE GOOD: Hannibal Lecter, as he first appeared in "The Silence of the Lambs" is arguably one of the best, if not the best, movie villain of all time. We've had a few sequels since then and "Hannibal Rising" is number 4, the first without Anthony Hopkins in the lead. With Hollywood's obsession with prequels (thanks George Lucas), this film unsurprisingly takes us back to the beginning of Hannibal's life and shows us the events that made him in to such an evil serial killer. The performance of Gaspard Ulliel is quite effective, and you can tell that he must studied the first three films over and over again because he's got that clever, able-to-outwit-anyone charm that Hopkins delivered so well. He also looks quite scary in the scenes he needs to be in. The film is beautifully shot; the bulk of the film takes place in post-war Europe and the footage we see is very well staged and mounted. Many of the shots, along with the disturbing musical score create a moody, chilling atmosphere that is enjoyable to watch. Gong Li also adds much to proceedings as Hannibal's Aunt who unwittingly helps him do his bad deeds.

THE BAD: I said pointless right? Yep, this film is completely pointless and unnecessary to the point of actually doing harm to the original character. Why? Hannibal Lecter is a character that shouldn't have to be explained. It's far scarier if we don't know how he became what he was. The thought that he 'just is' makes for a far scarier character. In this film, we get a ex-girlfriend revenge plot where young Hannibal goes after those who ate his little sister and it makes him deeply sympathetic which is just plain wrong. But even if we were to go along with this, it's still not well built. The story is told in such a way that we just have to accept that Hannibal became what he was based on that one incident.

We go from him being a cute kid to psychopathic teenager serial killer in a matter of moments. Since we know Hannibal survives to go on to become who he is, there are no surprises or shocks as we know he'll survive (and the way the story is mounted, he is in peril at times but we know he's not). I also mentioned how good Gaspard Ulliel's acting was; unfortunately his appearance doesn't match. His face is long and thin yet Hopkins is round and wide. Can a person's face change like that? Overall, this film detracts from the original character of Hannibal Lecter and despite having some good points, it's just a flat out waste of time and shouldn't have been made.

It's 1:11 a.m... Do You Know Where Your Fishing Boat Is?

It's 1:11 a.m.

I am not sure I have ever been awake at 1:11 a.m.!

Now before you scoff and think, "what is this guy, some kind of Benjamin Franklin, early to bed,early to rise,blah,blah blah, guy....."

Let me clarify that I have been awake beyond 1:11 a.m. on numerous occasions.

Why just the other day, I was wandering around the house stepping on dog squeak toys,banging into walls searching for Tums in the dark,trying not to awaken any other inhabitants of the Klott household.

Of course by the time I had emptied all medicine cabinets, all kitchen cabinets, and turned on every light switch in the house in my futile quest for "the #4 combination plate ex-girlfriend revenge" relief, I had plenty of company and the usual "here it is right in front of your face", in the first place I had started my 2:00 a.m. prowl.

But I digress.

My point here, if there is to be a point, is that I am not sure I have ever seen the "digital clock" at 1:11 a.m.

It's just weird looking.

It wasn't alarming, like every time my calculator spits out a 666 and I think I am possessed,or earlier this year when I glanced at the clock when it was 1:23 on the fifth day of the fourth month of the sixth year.....that's 1:23 on 4/5/6 for all you Rain Man fans out there.....

No, it was just weird.

Now to the fishing part.

This post midnight toss and turn session was brought on by my constant worry about my newly painted and "spruced up" driftboat. Yes, if you follow these articles, and if you do --YOU need help-- you will remember that I have been nursing what was diagnosed as a torn rotator cuff.

Since my winter steelhead fishing season was in the tank , due to my bad wing, I decided it was the perfect time to repaint my boat. Well, actually my good buddy Gregorio did most of the work, but I made a great supervisor and held a sander every now and then.

It is now finished.

Aside from the fact, that what I thought would be a simple little weekend project, (do a little sanding throw a little paint on the outside) turning into a three month reconstruction of both my boat and bank account, I think I am having anxiety about using it.

It's too.... well....it's too nice!

Before the sanding, grinding, replacing of floor boards,new gluv-it,new rubber,new winch rope, new inside surface painting, multi- toned metallic outside finish,and repainting and wiring of my trailer....

It was just a boat.

Now, it's some kind of showpiece. I'M AFRAID TO USE IT!!

I was planning on taking it fishing tomorrow, but I am afraid to put any scratches or dents on it.

The thought of fish slime and shrimp oil on my freshly painted Zolatone interior has me tossing, turning, and freaking out over some late night 111 digital breadstick message.

The worst thing is that I may not be done with my nautical spending spree yet.

Now, the oars look old,the old Evinrude boat motor is hideous, the tires and wheels seem ancient, and my TRUCK? Well, I am ashamed to pull it with that old 2002 clunker!!

Heck, even my house looks in dis repair next to that boat.

I have no room in the garage for it, so I will probably have to build a garage for it, or pay for covered storage somewhere.

I may lose another three months to home reconstruction!!

I just looked out the window, and it is still there, shiny and bright.

Maybe, if I slip out and drive it to some vacant field and abandon it, I can still save my summer fishing adventures, or perhaps I will just go outside and start denting and scratching it with a hammer.

So please heed my warning here and think twice before you take your beloved fishing boat and turn it into some unrecognizable glamourous showpiece.

I can never live up to it's expectations.

And if you happen to be in my neighborhood, be sure to throw some mud and a few fish guts on it.

That way, I can get back to sleep......

Gladiator Movie Review

Ridley Scott has had his ups and downs in his career as a Hollywood film director; hitting the highs with the sci-fi classics "Alien" and "Blade Runner", and also the lows with such films as "Legend" and "1492: The Conquest of Paradise" and mediocre successes such as "Black Rain" and "Someone To Watch Over Me". However, it wasn't until "Gladiator" where he forever put to bed any questions about his reputation as a serious filmmaker and it's not hard to see why. This film dared to revive the old Roman epic of yesteryear and managed to do it with some glorious visuals, intriguing drama and characters, and a grand scope. Scott has been on the record as saying he enjoys making films that let him create an 'entire world'. With this film he gets to do just that, rendering Ancient Rome in all its glory and the sheer brutality that underscored their otherwise civilised society. "Gladiator" is a big-scale Hollywood epic that will immerse you in its world and take you back to another time and place.

"Gladiator" begins by introducing our main hero, Maximus (played with stand-out authority by Russell Crowe), a Roman General who leads the troops of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) in a big battle to conquer Germania. The savages put up a fight but they are no match for the brutal professionalism of the Roman army. After the battle, the Emperor confides in Maximus that he wants to hand over power to him after he dies, and that his first act should be to make Rome a Republic again. The Emperor's son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) doesn't like this at all, and in a jealous rage murders his father and assumes control of the Empire. Maximus shuns Commodus and as a result is sentenced to death. Maximus manages to escape his execution but ends up in the slave trade, eventually becoming a Gladiator who fights for his master, Proximo (Oliver Reed). It's not long before Maximus finds himself in the Colosseum and in a spate of games for the Emperor, Maximus sees his opportunity to exact ex-girlfriend revenge on Commodus by turning the Roman people against him before eventually killing him in a duel in the main arena.

The story for "Gladiator" isn't particularly new; it's central character is out to exact ex-girlfriend revenge, but it's set against the life and times of the Roman empire. The story isn't unique, and there are a few moments where you feel the filmmakers could have worked on the script a bit more. However, where this film really shines is in the broad-sweeping visuals, strong characterisations and the big spectacle of it all. This film is a feast for the eyes; everything is rendered in spectacular detail, with the re-creation of Ancient Rome being the standout. One tilting shot revealing the Colosseum in the background and then coming down to reveal the thousands of people in the street is nothing short of breathtaking. The games held in the Colosseum account for all the major set-pieces (save the opening battle) in the film and they are spectacular. One particularly good sequence involves a retired Gladiator who battles Maximus while having to fend off a couple of tigers. The composition of the shots in this sequence are quite beautiful, and visually represents what Scott is trying to impart about Rome; the picture is beautiful but what's going on within it is brutal and nasty. Maximus' first fight in the Colosseum with his team is also excellent, especially as it ends with Maximus frustrating Commodus when the crowd votes to keep him alive.

Ridley Scott assembled a stellar cast for this Roman epic. Russell Crowe leads the way in a commanding performance as Maximus. Everything gravitates around him and he carries the film with aplomb. The supporting cast is equally impressive. Joaquin Phoenix delivers a slimy, nasty little character in Commodus who does a lot of bad things only because he feels everyone is slighting or overlooking him. Oliver Reed is excellent as Maximus' slave master Proximo, who was once a slave himself. Richard Harris is perfect as Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius and Connie Nielsen is great as his daughter. Perhaps one observation in relation to these performances that struck me as odd was that they were all speaking with proper English accents. I know that was supposed to infuse the piece with a sense of sophistication but seeing Romans speak with English accents is a little odd. It's only a minor criticism as for the most part you don't notice while you're being swept up in the epic nature of this very big film.

"Gladiator" is a big, sweeping old-style Hollywood epic updated with today's modern visual effects; it's a visual and artistic triumph and will take you back to the world of Ancient Rome, even if it's story isn't particularly inventive or unique.

This lesson is taken after getting ready for a simple night out with my ex-girlfriend revenge. The History of Tobacco

The Huron Indians of North America have passed down a legend concerning the origin of tobacco. According to the legend, there was once a great famine, when all the lands were barren. The Great Spirit sent a naked girl to restore the land and save his people. Where she touched the ground with her right hand, potatoes grew and the earth was fertile. Where she touched the ground with her left hand, corn sprang forth, bringing green to the lands and filling all stomachs. Finally, the naked messenger of the Great Spirit sat down; and from her place of rest grew tobacco.

There are two interpretations of this tale. One is that tobacco was a gift like corn and potatoes and was meant to provide food for the mind of man. The second is that since tobacco was given by the seat of the messenger, it was intended as a message (or possibly a curse) that the gifts of food were not without their price.

Whichever interpretation is correct, the use of tobacco was firmly established among, North American Indians by the time Columbus arrived. The early explorers were amazed to discover the Indians putting little rolls of dried leaves into their mouths and then setting them afire. Some Indians carried pipes in which they burned the same leaves so they could "drink" the smoke. It was also apparent that tobacco was essential to many religious and social rituals and that it was a habit not given up easily.

Tobacco Takes Hold

In the 16th century two British sea captains persuaded three Indians to return with them to London. The Indians brought substantial supplies of tobacco to sustain them through their voyage and stay. That trip may have marked the birth of the Indians' ex-girlfriend revenge against the white invaders of their land, for along the way some crew members tried inhaling the tobacco smoke. Many enjoyed it and soon found it hard to stop. Furthermore, these needs could only be satisfied by tobacco, which had to be used in certain ways. It did not have to be smoked. It could he chewed or ground to powder and inhaled as "snuff". Simply eating the raw plant, however, did not provide relief or pleasure, and no other substance seemed to be an adequate substitute.

Opposition in the use of Tobacco

As tobacco was introduced to one empire after another, similar pattern of response occurred. What happened in England, under the rule of King James I, near the turn of the16th century, was typical. King James greatly opposed the use of tobacco. He decried its use as unhealthy and immoral, and he urged its banishment. However, even among the royal court tobacco had its dedicated followers: men like Sir Walter Raleigh made tobacco use both fashionable and a mark of distinction.

Attempts to restrict supplies only increased the value of tobacco and soon it was worth its weight in silver. Finally, in one of the earliest recorded attempts at prohibition by economics, King James increased the tobacco duty tax by 4 000%. The only real consequence was to help stimulate a flourishing smuggling trade.

In the end, the economic issues conquered the rulers and not the plant. Seeing that the people would pay nearly any price for tobacco, monopolies were started so that the government could benefit from the desires of its people.

Taxation policies were more carefully implemented and the government itself was soon dependent on the trading of tobacco.

This general pattern of disapproval, failed attempts at prohibition, and economic gain by taxation was repeated in Italy, France, Russia, Prussia, and then the United States. As governments became convinced of the dangers of tobacco use, taxes were raised, providing the dual benefit that the conscience of the government was cleansed while it's income was enhanced as people continued to smoke. In Britain in 1983 smokers spent a total of $6,200 million on tobacco, of which 60 per cent went to the government in tax. Similarly, in the United States today smokers spend about $16 billion per year As a "ex-girlfriend revenge of the Indians" the spread of tobacco makes the introduction of syphilis into the new world palely comparison when the enormous toll in death and diseases is considered. The Judge And The Victim

Human minds are complex existence of us. One part of your mind judges each and everything, from the weather to your neighbour, basically everything. This Inner Judge uses the contents of your own Book of Law to judge everything you do or do not do, everything you think or do not think, everything you feel or do not feel.

Basically, everything is subject to the tyranny of this Judge. Every time you do something that goes against your Book of Law, your inner Judge finds you guilty, which means you must be punished and feel ashamed. This happens several times a day, day after day, year after year.

But parallel to this, another part of yourself, which we could call the Victim is at the receiving end of these punishments. This is the part that suffers the rebuke, the guilt and the shame. This is part of you that says: "Poor me, I am not good enough, not intelligent enough, not talented enough, I do not deserve to be loved, I am not good enough to deserved this, etc...."

And all these come from a system of beliefs which you have never chosen in the first place!

These beliefs are passed down from one generation to next generation whatever your background or culture. It's the same everywhere. The beliefs are so strong that even years later, when we discover new ideas and try to make our own decisions, we realise just how they influence our life. Everything that goes against these beliefs makes us feel fear and questioning them or contravening them acts as "emotional poison", generating more feelings of insecurity.

Even if your personal Book of Law is wrong, it does not give you a feeling of security. Our belief system, even if not of our own choice, is nevertheless something to which we have given our agreement. It's influence is so strong that even when we understand, in principle, that these beliefs are not true, we still feel guilt and shame and criticism every time we break a rule.

In the same way, the government has its laws that control the "dream" of its society, your belief system is the law book that guides your reality and your personal "dream". All these laws exist in your head, your believe them, and your inner Judge bases everything it says on them. The Judge hands down a ruling and the Victim suffers the guilt and the punishment.

But true justice plays not part in this. This inner Judge present in every individual is wrong because this Book of Law is false. 95% of the time the beliefs are etched in our mind are nothing but lies, and we suffer from our beliefs in these lies.

Face it, life is governed by fear and there is not a corner of our world that is free from human suffering, anger, feelings of ex-girlfriend revenge, violence, war of different scales, all of which is just a reflection of a "dream" injustice. It's the same state of fear one thousand years ago, now, and it will be the same one thousand years from now. It's inescapable.

It's 1:11 a.m.

I am not sure I have ever been awake at 1:11 a.m.!

Now before you scoff and think, "what is this guy, some kind of Benjamin Franklin, early to bed,early to rise,blah,blah blah, guy....."

Let me clarify that I have been awake beyond 1:11 a.m. on numerous occasions.

But I digress.

My point here, if there is to be a point, is that I am not sure I have ever seen the "digital clock" at 1:11 a.m.

It's just weird looking.

No, it was just weird.

Now to the fishing part.

It is now finished.

(The boat-not the rotator cuff.)

It's too.... well....it's too nice!

(The boat-not the bank account.)

It was just a boat.

Now, it's some kind of showpiece. I'M AFRAID TO USE IT!!

I was planning on taking it fishing tomorrow, but I am afraid to put any scratches or dents on it.

The thought of fish slime and shrimp oil on my freshly painted Zolatone interior has me tossing, turning, and freaking out over some late night 111 digital breadstick message.

The worst thing is that I may not be done with my nautical spending spree yet.

Now, the oars look old,the old Evinrude boat motor is hideous, the tires and wheels seem ancient, and my TRUCK? Well, I am ashamed to pull it with that old 2002 clunker!!

Heck, even my house looks in dis repair next to that boat.

I have no room in the garage for it, so I will probably have to build a garage for it, or pay for covered storage somewhere.

I may lose another three months to home reconstruction!!

I just looked out the window, and it is still there, shiny and bright.

So please heed my warning here and think twice before you take your beloved fishing boat and turn it into some unrecognizable glamourous showpiece.

I can never live up to it's expectations.

And if you happen to be in my neighborhood, be sure to throw some mud and a few fish guts on it.

Most troubles in a relationship start by misunderstandings through lack of or poor communication in both receiving and transmitting. It is not what is said but how it is heard or received. Huge problems in most relationships are caused through misunderstanding.

a. A conversation is said to be 80% verbal and 20% non verbal communication. Your body language can say a thousand words so be careful what your body is saying to your spouse. Your words may be saying one thing but your body is revealing something else.

b. Learn to listen, really listen to what the other person is saying and ask questions to clarify their position on the subject so no presumptions are made in error.

2. Taking Responsibility for your part in any break down in your relationship.
